Adopt-A-Family Update

Times are hard for so many people throughout the world and in our own little corner of the Pajaro Valley. It warmed our hearts to know that we made a difference in the lives of two families this Christmas by participating in the Adopt-A-Family program through the Salvation Army. The Deacons would like to thank everyone who made monetary and gift donations to this project. We will never know the impact the gesture made on these families, but I'm sure it made their Christmas and ultimately showed them God's love. Thank you so much!!

On behalf of the Deacons,

For our mission project this year the Deacon’s have decided to Adopt-A-Family through Salvation Army’s program.

When I walked into the Salvation Army downtown on Grant Street, I was greeted with warmth and appreciation.  They have received 400 applications from families in Watsonville hoping to receive some help during this Holiday Season.  In response to the need we have adopted two families.

One of our families is a 57 year old grandmother of 3 who has, because of illness, adopted her 3 grandchildren.

              The children’s names are

Andrew, age 7, birth date March 2, 2002

Elijah, age 6, birth date September 22, 2003

Roy, age 9, birth date October 26, 2000

Our other family is a family of four; just recently the daughter, Arlin, was diagnosed with Leukemia.

              Mother – Blanca, age 29

              Father-Ernesto, age 38

                            Children

Ernesto, age 4, birth date March 14, 2005

Arlin, age 11, birth date June 11, 1998

The Salvation Army asks us to put together a Christmas Basket for the family.  This could include toys for the children, something for mom and dad or grandmother, a traditional Christmas meal and any other additional stocking stuffers, clothing and food items to make Christmas time something special for this family.  They ask that we purchase at least one new gift for each child and supply a food basket or gift certificate to a grocery store, for a nice Christmas dinner.

The Deacons will be collecting contributions for our Christmas Baskets for two weekends, December 6th and December 13th.  If you would prefer the Deacons do the shopping, monetary donations will be accepted.  Thank you for helping us share the Christmas Spirit with our Community.
