FROM THE DEACONS

In case you haven't noticed, we are a church that loves to celebrate! We will have a sign-up sheet for those who would like to donate their birthday cakes for the first Sunday of every month, and we will recognize all who are celebrating their birthday for that month.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - LET'S CELEBRATE!

Bring your aprons, your energy, your smiles and your giving hearts to church on Friday, November 19th, as we prepare 90 - 100 meals for many in the Pajaro Valley who have fallen on hard times. We will start cooking at 2:00 p.m. for delivery to the Salvation Army at 5:45 p.m. It seems like a rather daunting task cooking for 100 people when getting dinner on the table for six is sometimes a challenge! With God's hands on our shoulder, we'll get the hang of it in no time, and blessing will be overflowing. Although November 19th is the third Friday of the month, all other meals will be on the first Friday of the month. Come on out - WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Susan Manabe, Jane Yoshida, and yours truly, Joanne Yahiro – I thought we looked rather sweet and kind, but apparently that’s not the impression given off the security cameras at the police department! On Saturday, September 11th (a rather significant date, don’t you think?), the Deacons put together a beautiful basket laden with all sorts of goodies to give to our police officers as our way of showing our appreciation for all they do for the city of Watsonville in keeping us safe and out of harms way. When we arrived at the police station there was no one to be seen, so we put the basket down in the middle of the floor (it was heavy) as we waited for someone to take it off our hands. We waited, and we waited, and we waited. Finally, two young police officers came through the door and suspiciously looked us over and took a scrutinizing look at the basket. It never occurred to us that because it was September 11th, the police might suspect that there was a bomb in the basket! It took but a few seconds to realize that our sentiments were genuine, and the police officers were very appreciative of the gift. Doesn’t God have a wonderful sense of humor? I can hardly wait to see what’s in store for our next Project Appreciation.
